FISH

FISH

Fish is a piece inspired by ancestral Peruvian iconography; I took this fish as inspiration to make a ceramic vessel and perform the Raku technique on it.
The idea of the vessel with a stirrup handle was inspired by ancient Peruvian ceramics, and the roundness of the vessel was achieved with the technique of trowel and stone that the ancient potters of the Viru and Tallan civilisation used to use in northern Peru.
It is a piece where I brought together Peruvian mixed techniques with the Japanese Raku technique, with the purpose of obtaining a unique and innovative piece while maintaining the essence of my ancestors. The oxides that I used are of more contemporary colours, but the smoky effect that the raku leaves in the areas where I did not apply oxide, brings me closer to the style of the Peruvian ceramics since in the dark, almost black areas, a product of artisanal firing, can be seen.
