MILA CANDUELAS RIOS

(Lima – Peru,1969)

Soy Mila Canduelas Rios, Licenciada en Artes por la Universidad Metropolitana de Cardiff en Gales Reino Unido. Me gradué el año 2023 obteniendo mi licenciatura con Honores en Primera Clase.

Durante mi tiempo en la universidad tuve la oportunidad de explorar diversas técnicas y procesos artísticos, lo que me permitió crear libremente y sin limitaciones. El confinamiento durante la pandemia me hizo meditar sobre mi futuro profesional y decidí en mi adultez retomar los estudios y apostar por una carrera que complementara mi formación previa, y que estuviera relacionada con el arte.

Entre mis otras profesiones están la de Diseñadora de Moda (1991), estudie en la escuela de Modas Madeleine Vionett, así como el oficio de Ceramista (2003) en el Centro de Educación Ocupacional Carlos Cueto Fernandini , ambas en Lima, Perú.

Actualmente radico en la Ciudad de Cardiff en Gales, Reino Unido y he participado en diferentes ferias en Peru a lo largo de mi formación como artista, así como en diferentes exposiciones organizadas por la Universidad Cardiff Met, y galerías como; Cardiff Made, Jacob’s Gallery, Tŷ Turner House, Llanover Hall, The Coaltrain Coffee Shop and Gallery. Desde el 2023 formo parte del Grupo de arte » Art Life Society Group» .

Mi práctica artística muestra mi versatilidad en diversos medios entre ellos la pintura, técnica de encáustica, tejido, papel, cianotipia, collage, grabado, serigrafía, así como modelado en cerámica y otros materiales.

Los temas que trabajo en mis obras están estrechamente ligadas al estudio de las civilizaciones antiguas que habitaron Perú y su cosmovisión. Me interesa profundizar en este tema, ya que se relaciona directamente con mi identidad peruana americana. Los trabajos que resultan de esta investigación están realizados desde mi propia perspectiva.

I am Mila Canduelas Rios, a Bachelor of Arts graduate from Cardiff Metropolitan University in Wales, United Kingdom. I graduated in 2023 with First Class Honours.
During my time at university, I had the chance to explore various artistic techniques and processes, which allowed me to create freely and without limitations. The confinement during the pandemic prompted me to contemplate my professional future. As a result, I decided to return to my studies in adulthood and pursue a career that complements my previous education, particularly one that is also connected to art.

Among my other professions are Fashion Designer (1991), I studied at the Madeleine Vionett Fashion School, as well as Ceramist (2003) at the Carlos Cueto Fernandini Occupational Education Center, both in Lima, Peru.

I am currently based in Cardiff, Wales, UK. Throughout my training as an artist, I have participated in various fairs in Peru and exhibitions in the UK organised by Cardiff Met University, as well as galleries such as Cardiff Made, Jacob’s Gallery, Tŷ Turner House, Llanover Hall, and The Coaltrain Coffee Shop and Gallery. Since 2023, I have been a member of the «Art Life Society Group.»

My artistic practice showcases my versatility across various media, including painting, encaustic techniques, textile, paper, cyanotype, engraving, screen printing and modelling with ceramics and other materials.

I focus on themes that are closely connected to the study of ancient civilizations in Peru and their worldviews. I have a strong interest in exploring this topic further, as it is directly related to my identity as an American of Peru. The artworks that emerge from this research reflect my personal perspective.
