KERO

KERO

Kero is a Quechua word that means wood. This is a ceramic vessel that is inspired by the Inka ceremonial vessel called Quiro, Quero or Kero, which was made of wood and was used in important ceremonies. This piece is based on the idea of the original Kero, where I have been transforming it by extending the upper part with a kind of wings, where I have engraved the shapes of some hands. On the sides, it has a pair of semi-circular handles to hold it. In the base, I engraved Inka iconography with the intention of making it more representative. In this piece, I use the plate technique for its construction and the Japanese Raku technique for glazing. I have a certain fascination for the Raku technique because it uses the four elements of nature in its process and the result will always be unexpected.
